YEF sports for development project stands her out for innovation and creativity using Football
and Martial arts to reinforce health, enhance self-esteem, assertiveness and confidence.
Our team sports enhances communication, team building and decision making skills. Sports
have been used to reinforce lessons on life skills for young people, youth and girls in particular.
We use sports training sessions on and off the field to train facilitators at the community level to
reinforce other programmatic areas of the Foundation. The Foundation has established two
grassroots academies for young girls in the area of football and vocational training in the
last 2 years.
Thus weekly training sessions are held using community based resources and girl coaches to
facilitate selected trainings to encourage their peers and form a resource group for each other.
The Foundation also promotes martial arts training across 2 geopolitical zones in Nigeria through
direct engagement of coaches and youth mentors. This is used as a tool for self-control,
self-discipline, time management and conflict prevention. Various groups have supported our
sports for development programs and these include, Standard Chartered, Women Win, UNICEF,
World Bank, Coaches across Continents, others.
